We're so lucky at Amesbury Abbey to have some stunning places to visit right on the doorstep.
The beautiful 17th century Heale House and its eight acres of gardens lie beside a tributary of the River Avon in the pretty Wiltshire village of Middle Woodford, just a ten-minute drive from the Abbey.
We took our residents on a day trip to the gorgeous Japanese gardens, where they enjoyed watching the trout filled streams crossing under the authentic Japanese tea house and below the picturesque red Nikko bridge.
We all stopped for a pot of tea – of course! - and then walked in the vegetable garden under tunnels of fruit trees laden with apples and pears.
Heale Garden closes at the end of September, so we just made it in time and were lucky enough to enjoy the last sunshine of summer.
We’ll look forward to going back in the spring.
