The Abbey turned back the clock with a wonderful VE Day garden party. Chef Yvette wowed everyone with homemade treats, while classic wartime songs filled the air thanks to our visiting singers and anarmy bagpiper.Residents were delighted to also welcome a number of serving soldiers related to our care team, who all turned out in uniform. As many of our residents served in the Forces themselves there was plenty of animated conversation all afternoon long.
Meanwhile, Sutton residents were outward bound and enjoyed a 3-hour VE Day special at The Lights theatre in Andover – the time flew by as we all sang our hearts out!
And for the final celebration of VE Day, as the sun started to set, Abbey Mews residents enjoyed a fantastic party with a beautiful Union Jack flag belonging to one resident's grandfather as a backdrop. It was a double celebration - resident Vivi Mallock also happened to be turning 80! Born on VE Day, her daughter, professional musician Sarah Mallock, treated everyone to a 45-minute performance on her electric violin, which was absolutely smashing and thoroughly enjoyed by all, as were the delicious eats and champagne.
