Everything's coming up roses

Naomi House & Jacksplace in the grounds of Sutton Manor has honoured a very special annual tradition... paying their peppercorn rent of a dozen red roses to the Cornelius-Reid family.

Every year, on or around Midsummer's Day, the children's hospice pays rent in the form of 12 red roses to Naomi and David Cornelius-Reid.

This tradition dates back to when their mother, Mary Cornelius-Reid, gave permission for a hospice to be built on her land with two conditions: to name the hospice after her daughter, and to pay an annual rent of a dozen red roses.

This year, Marlowe and her brother, Henley, presented the roses to Naomi and David, alongside their mums, surrounded by staff and families who'd gathered to mark the occasion.

There was also something particularly unique this year about the roses presented... one of them was a handcrafted metal rose!
